Best-selling iPhone game to be fleshed out on PC

Archon is, officially, a two-part series of turn-based strategy (TBS) games, in which you plan out attacks on a chess-like board, engaging in real-time battle upon reaching the enemy. Unofficially (and sometimes officially), the concept has received a lot of love over the years, in the form of fan-made sequels, clones, rewrites, and lately, remakes.
Archon Classic, one of those remakes, was released for the iPhone this past June to an astounding amount of success. The multiplayer title, which retains the classic feel while updating features appropriately, claimed a position in the top 20 best selling games globally within two weeks of release, and has maintained a 4.5 star rating -- no small feat when you're competing against over a billion apps. A single-player component ("Conquest") will be added in a soon-coming 1.9 update.

For the PC gamers who are fans of the series, you'll be happy to know a PC version (shown above) is in the works, ready to pre-order from October 15 and releasing this holiday season. Here's what you get:
- New multiplayer game modes featuring up to 4 players in “teams” and “versus” battles
- Choose between classic 8-bit or new artwork
- Online leader boards
- Achievements
- HD resolution
- Multiplayer on a local machine or across the internet
- Additional enhancements include a variety of board layouts, character leveling up, power-ups and enhanced AI
Both versions of Archon Classic are developed by React!Games, led by founder Chad Lee, who had worked on the scrapped rewrite Archon: Evolution with the blessing of co-creator Jon Freeman.
More about the games can be found via the official website below, where gamers can also pre-order the PC version. No price has been announced yet.
