A look at the design tools for this promising ARPG

Part one of Runic Games' Torchlight developer diary took us inside the studio and explained their vision for the game, pegged as an ARPG. Today we'll finish it up with part two which goes hands on with the design, also touching on the SDK which will be freely available to all purchasers at launch.

The SDK is particularly interesting, at least to those interested in modding. Even if not, it's always cool to see how a game is designed -- these things are hard work, you know! Torchlight, if you don't know, will be selling for $20, and with all the free content to be had from the modding community, this one could be the steal of the year.

So let's take a look at part two:

If that did it for you, you may also want to check an even more in-depth look at the editor right here. It's a 20+ minute video guide that shows you exactly how to build a level -- fascinating stuff for anyone inclined.

Torchlight will be launching October 27 and can be purchased from the Runic Games website or just about any digital outlet. A box version, we're told, will be released to retail January 1, 2010. For the DRM-aware, you may want to hold off for the latter, as judging from team chatter in the forums it's likely the digital version will feature limited unlock codes, while the box version will probably see only a disk check.

A few new screens below, as well. Looking lovely.
