Trial software downloads for digitally distributed Wii titles are on the way, at least in Japan
In an effort to entice the Wii faithful to open their wallets in the Wii Shopping Channel, Nintendo will be offering demos for WiiWare titles. During the company's investor briefing following its recent earnings report, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata confirmed a test run for WiiWare demos would launch possibly later this month in Japan.
Nintendo hopes to build enthusiasm for WiiWare and DSiWare titles through offering trial software. Iwata conceded the market for digitally distributed titles on Nintendo platforms is currently dogged by mild reception from their respective userbases. Wii Shopping Channel and DSi Shop perusers are typically folks who already know what they are looking for, and may not necessarily be interested in exposing themselves to other potential purchases.
Iwata suggests that there will be other measures Nintendo will need to implement to further increase awareness of WiiWare and DSiWare titles, and actually get customers through the front door in the first place.
