Celebrating Modern Warfare 2 and Veterans Day with 'Call of Duty Endowment' program
With all the drama surrounding Modern Warfare 2 (at least on PC), Activision is finally announcing something positive -- and unexpected.
Tomorrow, the day Modern Warfare 2 launches, Activision will be donating $1 million to set up a veterans aid foundation, affectionately named "Call of Duty Endowment" or CODE. After all, it's no secret that veterans generally get a boot in the arse when they are integrated back into normal society.
While us civilians are now worrying about rampant lay-offs and general bad times with this economic downturn, unemployment is old news to most vets; on top of that, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) has reported that 25 percent of veterans with jobs make absolute diddly-squat.
So here comes Activision to give them a boost just in time for Veterans Day, if only to rinse off Bobby Kotick's public image. Hey, may as well do and look good. Activision's CEO did not hesitate to do a little gushing over the new CODE foundation:
"The joblessness rate that [veterans] should have should be far less than the national average, not more. How do you expect people to actually join the military if when they leave the military they can't integrate back into the free market they're supposed to be protecting?
"These are super-capable people, to the extent that you can put them on track to develop more skills, the development potential that we've identified is extraordinary."
CODE plans on making its first donation of $125,000 to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
