No more fixed menus, your very own assassin's hideout, and a new "Focus On" video

Ubisoft has released the latest Assassin's Creed II developer diary, which puts them at a total of six video journals.

The newest dev diary is titled "Home Sweet Home" and offers a detailed look at the new Animus menu, as well as a nifty little hideout reminiscent of the various hidey holes you acquire in Oblivion.

As far as the menu is concerned, Ubisoft has ditched fixed menus in favor of a more "dynamic" setup.  Aesthetically, it certainly looks more pleasing.  And the hideout?  Well, in Assassin's Creed II, players will get a little town of their own to manage -- and believe me, it needs some serious redecorating.

Basically Ezio stumbles upon a decrepit little villa that will serve as his hideout.  Throughout the game, you can spruce the place up and turn it into a bustling village again.  Hey, everyone needs a hobby, and we imagine killing people to redeem your family can get pretty stressful.

In addition to the new dev diary, another Assassin's Creed II "Focus On" video debuted last week.  This one is titled "Factions," and through it we meet the various allies Ezio picks up along the way, from ladies of the night to his uncle Mario.

They will teach Ezio how to move through the city, face his enemies, and stand behind him every step of the way.  Always nice to know someone has your back while you're scaling walls of Venice.  The first "Focus On" video, "Assassination Arsenal," covered Ezio's wide range of deadly weapons.

They put a few french Canadians in the diary. It's great to see that Ubisoft shows it is based in Quebec by letting Patrick Plourde and others have a role in these diaries, even if they have quite a big accent!

I'm more and more looking forward to this game as time passes

I liked AC1 because it was different and innovative for the fact that it seamlessly combined the old and new in an engaging story. AC2 is looking extremely promising--the developers have shown that they worked hard and meticulously on this game and I'm expecting great things from them come next Friday.
