3Dlabs Bows Out Of Workstation Graphics Race
Matt Horne - Friday, February 24th, 2006 | 12:31PM (PT)

3Dlabs will change its focus to the mobile graphics market

3Dlabs, know for their Wildcat series graphics cards, has just announced that it will make the transition from the professional workstation graphics market to pursue the mobile market.

As the mobile market seems to be growing at quite a fast rate, this would seem logical. With ATI and Nvidia already starting their own campaigns to mine the new graphics possibilities, it seems as though there will be allot for manufacturers to choice from.

The result of 3Dlabs decision to leave the workstation market will leave a hole in its company, as the plans will include the downsizing of approximately 100 staff members. Creative Technology, mother company to 3Dlabs, will take an approximate $9 million restructuring fee and impairment charge of $25 million for the change.
