SCE chairman still has PlayStation on his mind despite bid for retirement
Sony Computer Entertainment's chairman Ken Kutaragi has recently
announced his intention to retire from the company later this year, but he will not be exiting stage left without first leaving a roadmap for future PlayStation consoles. Kutaragi explains to the EE Times that he will ensure the company's console hardware design team will be prepared not only for future revisions of the PlayStation 3, but a potential PlayStation 4 console and beyond.
In an exclusive interview with EE Times, Kutaragi said: "As a matter of course, I have the vision of Playstation 4, 5 and 6, which will merge into the network."Kutaragi said he previously turned over to Sony's PS3 design team his vision for reducing costs along with design models extending about two years into the future. "Now I'm ready to start working with a much wider world," Kutaragi said.
Kutaragi maintains that the PS3's Cell is ultimately designed as a "network processor", and this keyword forms the backbone from which he intends to develop further ideas for Sony's entertainment environment.
