Teenager buys a PS2, and it gets delivered with £44,000 cash

Wish I won this auction

You can get some pretty good deals on eBay -- but you can't always get as a good a deal as this: A teenager in the UK won an auction for a PS2 on eBay. The PS2 was supposed to come with two games, and he won the auction for £95. The PS2 was sent to him in the mail, but not the games.

He probably didn't mind not getting the games though, because, in their place, was a big stack of cash. Bundled in the parcel was £44,000 (about $90,000 US).

Police investigated. They are currently holding the stack of cash under the proviso of the Proceeds of Crime Act. It is not everyday £44,000 cash gets mailed to someone out of the blue, so they are looking into the matter. But the local law officers have given the police until the 22nd of September to either get to the bottom of the incident, or the teenager will be able to apply the Police Property Act to reclaim the money.

An eBay spokesperon said that "the contents of this parcel were somewhat unusual, and we will assist with any inquiries the police may wish to make."

Don't be absurd. Whoever sent him the money has his address. Risk having somebody pay him and his family a 'home visit', or let the police get the jump on obviously suspicious behavior? Easy choice there.

Actually, I heard on the news, about this story, except it reported something like $33K or something...Well, if they don't figure out where the money rightly belongs, he gets it back...

It was under a headline (Scrolling on the bottom of the screen) on some show (a G4 Tech show?) under "Worst Parents Ever"...Yeah, it was probably a crime involved...

Either the original sender mistakenly packaged the money with the system (who the hell makes a mistake like that?), or there is some sort of trickery up here...either he wasn't supposed to win the auction, or they guy sent it to the kid, hoping he would not report the money, so he could retrieve it later...

Probably just some sort of freaky mess-up involved though...

    WOWEE.

I think maybe the guy who sold it probably said somewhere on the auction: COMES WITH $90K.
