Looks like we have a winner here folks
BioShock, the new paradigm-shifting FPS from Irrational Games is due out next week, and the Internets are a'buzzing all over it.
Here is a summary of some of the stories:
While the release date for the PC/Xbox 360 game is August 21 (for State-siders), and August 24th (for Europeans), it has been reported that copies have gone up for sale at many locations of Toys 'R' Us. Also, Steam and Direct2Drive downloading services are now offering the game -- you can pre-download the game, and it'll be activated on the release date (maybe at midnight?)
Early reviews are unsettingly, overwhelmingly great. It's been a long time since I've read such glowing reviews and previews. Eurogamer gave the game a 10/10, saying: "The hours spent playing this masterpiece were the perfect encapsulation of why videogaming is such a favourite waste of time for so many of us," and "For a game to be so outstanding in one department is one thing - to manage to tick every single box from graphics to audio to gameplay depth to atmosphere and innovation is pretty much unprecedented."
PcGamer UK gave the game a 9.5. The reviewer says that is an "unbelievably fine game" -- the reviewer then goes on to state: "I spend my career, and my gaming life, waiting for a moment when a game just astonishes me, when I can't believe what I'm seeing, what I'm doing. BioShock has five."
Swedish gaming mag Games Reactor gave the game a 9 out of 10.
Game Informer says "It’s ingenious, enthralling, and a masterpiece of the most epic proportions," and gave the game a 10.
As you are probably aware, the Xbox 360 demo is available for download. The PC demo hasn't been released (and many gamers are upset by this), but has been promised before the end of the month, and Irrational has been quoted as saying that they are working as hard as possible to release the demo before the 21st.
Oops, they aren't actually called Irrational Games anymore. The two Irrational Games teams have been split into new organizations: 2k Boston and 2k Australia.
The BioShock website was just updated today with a bunch of new info, and videos and such.
Here are the official requirements for the game:

And the game requires an Internet connection for game activation.
I agree with tallteen, I wonder what caused all of the fuss like they've never seen an elemental themed weapon? Again not saying the game is bad or anything, but what are we supposed expect from a game that was forced to drop its horrible mp?
Agreed, the 10/10 reviews look a rather over-exaggerated.
However, the ohter scores look rather reasonable, and I'm impressed. The game does look superb. I can't wait for the PC demo to come out, I really want to try this out. From what I've seen, it still doesn't look like a perfect game, but it looks very impressive.
Gamespy: "An unparalleled achievement. No other game comes even remotely close to it in terms of raw emotional connection. " Gamepro: "What if a game's narrative was as intricate and as immersive as its graphics? What if as much attention went into dialogue and atmosphere as went into pixel shaders and high-resolution textures? What then? Ladies and gentlemen, the answer is BioShock, one of the most playable, thought-provoking, and just downright impressive games to emerge on a home console since, well, ever."
I dunno. Not saying it'll be the century's best videogame or anything -- but I'm looking forward to playing it

I'm not saying the game isn't great, I'm just saying I don't think any game will ever warrant a 10/10 >_>
