Knights of the Old Republic ]I[ might be in the works.
BioWare might be getting back on the ole Star Wars horse and making a third chapter in the Knights of the Old Republic series to complete the trilogy. This tidbit was garnered from the website FiringSquad, who appraised information released by Electronic Arts (who now owns Bioware) for their annual Analysts Day for financial meeting. Some slides from this event (posted to EA's website as a PDF file) outlined BioWare's intention to work on a new KotoR game. The game was stated not to be an MMO title, but instead, something in the same vein as the first two games in the popular RPG series.
It seems that BioWare has their work cut out for them, as they will also be working on two future installments of Mass Effect, a secret MMO game, and a game in the new 'Dragon Age' series.
I'd like to get my hands on one, on a next gen console (PS3 preferably, if there is online gameplay)
Kevin's 30 second review: Quite good. Top notch single-player only RPG. Real-time combat that can be paused, so you can que up moves. Good writing. You can make a team of a couple of dudes. You have some force powers; you can play as an evil jedi dude or a good jedi dude.
Negative points: pretty linear gameplay (i.e do quest a,b,c,then d. Next stage.) Combat was too easy for me (even on hard.)
KOTOR has some similarity to Mass Effect.
This is my fav RPG game of all time. I love the story, the levels, the characters.
It needs less linearity and more character customization as well as more Mass Effect like dialogs systems.
Btw, would sex scenes be too much to ask for? I mean they put in really hot female characters and you do nothing with them, NOTHING!
Anyways, if Kotor II was that good maybe I should have checked it out. I just thought it looked a little too similar to Kotor I (which I gave up on about 30 hours in or so) so didn't investigate it. Hmm...
Er, I'll just excuse myself now.
And unfortunately games are held to even more unreasonable content restraints in comparison to the limits put on television, books, or movies. That whole 'sexbox' CNN story the other week was a good example of this. I guess this is because many baby-boomers still have the notion that gaming is solely for kids and young teens, when this is not the case.
Definitely what I was asking myself after I was finished.
Also, the final battle was too easy.
