Public development engine this summer for Xbox 360, PC

Move over RPG Maker, a company named Digini are about to stir the game development pot something heavy.  They've declared the impending arrival of a subscription-based development environment for Xbox 360 and the PC. Frankly, it's about time something like this came along.

And I know what you might be thinking: "Oh God, how much is this going to cost?" Rest your fears, sire, the price range is planned to accomodate all types, from "novices and hobbyists to professional users." $14.95-99.95 sounds pretty fair, no?

Additionally, developers of all kinds can use either the "visual model" or the scripting interface to build their game.

Following the commercial release this summer, "Asset Packs" and "Feature Packs" will be released as well.

This isn't any hacked together kit either, as designer and industry vet Tony Garcia (you read that right) attests in an interview with Gamastura:

"Digini has built functionality to address the lion share of game creators needs, but will also enable integration with industry standard tools."

On whether or not the kit will ever make its way to other systems, he says its in the works:

"There is a great opportunity with XNA, and we are committed to realizing its full potential. At the same time we know that our customers will want broader platform support combined with the same level of quality and accessibility. We are currently in discussions with most of the major hardware players, and will be announcing those partnerships in the future."

    Interesting idea...

Sounds a bit like the XNA Creators club on the 360, but with more support and stuff >_>

it's just game engine, it may be the 1st for the 360 but we don't even know how it'll be yet
only time will tell if it's going to be popular but the price sure is cheap...
and that integration idea is cool
