Maybe it will be as successful as Vista

Bill Gates says next version of Windows could come out next year Image 1

Microsoft plans to speed up the life-cycles of their operating systems: they now aim to come out with a new OS every three years.  In a talk in Miami yesterday, Mr. Microsoft himself, Bill Gates, said that the new  version of Windows will come "sometime in the next year or so" and that he was "super-enthused about what it will do in lots of ways."

This likely does not mean a retail release is coming next year though; instead, Gates probably meant that the development of the new OS will have come to the point next year where they have a functional, working internal version of Windows 7 to  evaluate.

But it does seem likely that the next Windows could come as early as the first half of 2010.

Yea... uh... they need to fix their problems they are having with Vista before they go on making new OSes...

Vista was Windows ME and Windows 7 will be Windows XP compared to ME.

    Dear Bill Gates,

Slow down buddy! My school's still teaching XP classes and don't plan on switching to Vista until next year.

I'm glad my certification I haven't even gotten is going to be obsolete soon. -_-'

vista still needs work, A LOT!
    so what's the big idea?
fix the ongoing problems before releasing a new os...

Putting out a new OS every 3 years does seem like a horrible idea to me.

Another example of a short-term profit margin taking precedence over common sense, if you ask me.

Apple seem to release a new version of their OS every few years too. But its true that it seems a little soon for a new one when people are still on XP.

    lol @ atsumi,

I can relate, when I was doing A+ certifications they were all for Windows 98 and ME.

Bah, Vista would probably barely be a stable, widely recommended choice of Windows OS by then.

I don't like this. OSs need time to proliferate, and have people get the most out of it first.

I think they're just trying to bypass the slight failure (still made tons of money though) that was Vista >_>

I wouldn't call Vista is very successful, there are tons of bugs and problem with varies driver.

Doubt it'll come that early. Even 2010 seems a little farfetched. It just seems strange to jump ship so suddenly.

I dont see why people are having so many problems with Vista. I've been running it since beta 1, and I like it. I've had no problems with it, and it feels like a pretty strong operating system. I also have it running on my laptop and 2 other computers in my house, and they all run it just fine. I've run into no bugs or glitches at all.

I like XP better. It runs so smoothly and there are not any useless security protocols on it. It also has less memory leaks and is a much more stable, efficient OS.

Microsoft and Intel are equally trying to mine our money without giving us the best OS or CPU. I think once every 5 years is a good for a new OS or Chipset to be produced. ME was a failure, XP is good (still using it, with no intention of upgrading to Vista yet).

How do the public know if this isn't just Mr Gates trying to make money??? and as someone mentioned before he still needs to fix Vista doesn't he?

    Lets all switch to Apple!!!

    XP
    XP
    and more XP.

    Vista = crap
Any further OS releases within 5 years of vista launch = crap & profiteering, but then it's Microsoft. Can see it coming.

The funny thing is, I have yet to see any reason why vista is horrible. I've been using it since the beta stages, and I think its leaps and bounds better then XP. The security is a lot better, and theres no need to have a thousand different firewalls and virus scanners running, networking is a lot easier, and over all its a more stable operating system for me.

I don't really like Vista or use it, but I will say that it does seem to get a little more flak then it deserves. It is not the best, but it really isn't all that bad either.

The main problem I have with it is that because of resource requirements, anybody who is interested in gaming (such as myself) can find much better performance using XP.

I'm pretty sure most people who bitch about Vista haven't actually bothered trying to figure out how to use it. Vista isn't that bad. People are just scared of change, don't want to take the time to learn something new because they've grown so accustomed to XP.

Vista is a steaming pile of Crap. No matter how you look at it. My Dad, a Lifelong Programmer, has said as much. And it AINT cause of change, believe me. The problem is that Microsoft Has begun Loading DRM into there updates. Add onto that that vista just doesn't deliver a stable enough experience. IT is just shit.

The Slayer, I assume you haven't used it for anything but browsing the web, right?

RabidChinaGirl... MY *bleep*ING CONTROL PANEL WON'T LOAD!!!!! It came with my computer(bought at Best Buy), yet it constantly tells me that "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting." I've got 2GB of RAM, a 160GB SATA 2 running at 7200 RPM with 8MB cache, and a Pentium 4 HT. Why, then, does it take 10 minutes to move 3MB???

I welcome their new OS, it can't be any worse than Vista.(Unless Apple is making it...)
