Blizzard-centric gaming convention still a go for this year, and it'll be bigger than ever
Not that we needed any reassurance that there would be one this year, but Blizzard officially confirms BlizzCon 2008 anyways. It's the third such convention since its inception, and will be held in Anaheim, California at the Anaheim Convention Center on October 10 and 11. As with previous years, the event promises to be a feast for the global fanbase of Blizzard's key franchises: Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo.
Attendance for this year's BlizzCon is expected to grow such that the developer will need to expand this year's event to cover three halls, from the two it filled during previous years. Thus far attendees can look forward to the following events and attractions:
- Hands-on play time with upcoming Blizzard Entertainment releases
- Discussion panels with Blizzard Entertainment developers
- Competitive and casual tournaments for players to showcase their talents
- Areas and activities devoted to licensed products such as the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game
- Costume, machinima, and character sound-alike contests with great prizes
- Commemorative merchandise based on the Blizzard Entertainment franchises
- A silent auction
- More exciting activities to be announced
Might these upcoming Blizzard releases include the strongly-rumored newest Diablo entry?
I'm still not sure myself. I guess it would depend if they have made huge strides in the RPG genre to make it a non-MMO but the same MP as Diablo 2.
Otherwise, an MMO with a CryEngine 2 engine won't be bad.
