Next consoles for 2010?

Analyst predictions for the eighth-gen

Next consoles for 2010? Image 1

Analyst Evan Wilson at Pacific Crest Securities - a company which specalizes in technology research, among other things - says we'll see the eigth generation of video game consoles come 2010.

This is about right, since the Playstation 2, for example, was released in 2000, and its successor in 2006 (the Xbox was ahead of the game, with a four year gap, Nintendo is at five with its consoles). However, I don't put too much stock in this guy's view, as he did once claim (late last year) a second redesign of the DS was complete, with no comment from Nintendo (and a year later, they've flat-out denied it).

Would you be ready for a new set of consoles in two years? Myself, I'm still playing original Playstation and Sega CD games, and drooling over a few modern titles like BioShock. My list of games to play/buy is far too extensive. Please, game companies, no more!

No, no, and no....

I haven't even picked up a current Gen Console! I am still playing around with my Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, and even N64!

i don't know about u guys, but i'm pretty excited at the thought of next gen consoles coming sooner than expected. - as long as their real advancements and not just slight graphic upgrades

Yeah, that was one thought I had, are the advancements going to be a bigger leap than between the current generation and the previous one?

Haha, that looks like Guilty Spark from Halo.

I predict Nintendo's next gen console is an N64 GameCube hybrid with a motion sensing body suit with gloves. And it comes with a plastic giant bubble that you walk inside and close and a giant plastic canon shoots you to the moon to experience the next gen console in its entirety.

amiright? <(^_*<)

As long as the eighth generation will be less about gimmicky controllers and "new", "innovative" ways to play games and more about raw processing power, I say let it. I doubt it'll start before 2011 at the earliest, though, probably 2012 or 2013 by the time everything's out.

I hope the next gen (or the gen after that), will make use of neural input >_>

As long as we are making predictions.... I predict Sony's system will be the PS4 and cost over a grand.... They will hype the graphics to death playing cut scenes and calling them gameplay footage, and then they will have no games on it until several months after it's release date.

I hope Nintendo makes the controllers more accurate for their next system. You can never roll the ball straight on Wii Sports bowling...

kspiess - It isn't a 'box' though >_> It is more some sort of sphere mixed with some futuristic helmet >_>

Course, they could go with a non-'box' name >_>

If they released something like that...

People's 'concept art' for consoles are always a bit 'out there'....It would probably look like a regular, non-insane design...

I'd imagine prices might be slightly higher (due to prices increasing in general as well as more power in the consoles), but Ł500 worth of console is still cheaper than most decent gaming PCs.

To all the people who are looking at that little X-Box sphere up there: That was a render done by an X-Box fan before the release of the 360 based purely on speculation. Aside from that, having 4-6 years for each generation of consoles is a bit much, especially if it was four years. 6-8 years is a much more realistic timespan for the platform generations.

Lovely, by that time we'll probably be up to 1TB in Holographic storage from the present 150GB discs, bring on our overly texture intense gaming overlords.

Hahahah, excellent.

Uh, no. I still play the PS2 dammit! The only reason they would start coming up with a new generation is because of the tendency for gamers to move on to a different game so quickly. So they have to keep coming up with new stuff to keep their customers. So stop eating up games so quickly people! Well, that's just my opinion anyway...
