First Dell, now Acer? Mainstream builders making gaming machines...
William Henning - Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 | 11:33AM (PST)

What's next? Gaming Gateways????

Acer has announced its new Predator gaming PC (not to be confused with the Predator movie franchise, nor the Predator drone plane). The shiny deep metallic copper case will stand out at lan parties.

The Predator features:

  • multi flash card reader
  • Blu-Ray reader / DVD multi-writer
  • up to four "Easy Swap" SATA hotswap bays
  • NVidia GeForce 780i motherboard supports triple SLI
  • comes with dual GeForce 9600GT / 9800GTX / 9800GX2
  • 1333MHz FSB
  • Core 2 Extreme or Core 2 Quad CPU
  • liquid cooling system
  • supports up to 8GB memory 800/1066MHz DDR2
  • on-board 7.1 HD audio

Is it just me, or is the case plain ugly?

I like how "multi flash card reader" is listed #1 on this gaming pc's features...

You know it would be alot better if they came out with some proper mid-range gaming computers. As in without the liquid cooling system, would make it cheaper and easier for people to buy computers capable of playing games.

If I'm gonna blow money on a gaming machine, I'd prefer a simpler, sleeker design.. =x

Deathmonkey nailed it, gaming doesn't always mean blistering pace, I'd be happy to see a decent affordable rig that doesn't look like some freak result of a scribble on the back of an envelope.

Meh, 'stands out' indeed >_> Not my thing, but I can see the appeal I suppose.

Give them a break about the midrange stuff. Give them time to offer midrange stuff. It makes sense they'd have a very clear line between 'regular' and 'gaming' PCs. Even so far as making the case 'noticeable' >_>
