Call of Duty franchise stronger than ever
Infinity Ward's studio lead Vince Zampella reveals to News.com that lifetime-to-date sales for the wildly popular multiplatform shooter, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, have reached over 10 million units worldwide. This helps boost Call of Duty's franchise power considerably, placing in the lifetime sales ballpark of other, more established shooter series. Published by Activision, CoD4 launched to great acclaim last November across the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It's consistently remained in the NPD Group's monthly top ten sales charts for the North American gaming market.
While Zampella could/would not disclose the exact unit sales across platforms, he did confirm that the Xbox 360 version of CoD4 was by far the best-selling. We're guessing Xbox Live online multiplayer proved to be a big draw for CoD fans. Interestingly, Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 4 also sold better on Microsoft's console, so Xbox 360 fans have another reason to brag now.
