Please no "Catz PSP" though
Ubisoft has told GamesIndustry.biz that they still consider the PlayStation Portable to me a major console handheld in the current video game market.
Basically, Ubisoft wants to play a bigger role in the selection of PSP games released.
"By way of further clarifying some recent statements made in the press, Ubisoft wants to reaffirm that it strongly supports the PSP, which holds a unique place in the market, addressing dedicated gamers and offering unprecedented power in a portable console," a spokesperson explained.
The above statement was released after an interview with the UK Ubisoft managing Director, Rob Cooper. In the interview he called Sony out, questioning which direction they were taking their Handheld.
SCEE's boss, David Reeves, admitted that the platform needed more games and it seems that Ubisoft are the first to jump to this offer.
"We support the PSP with innovative game experiences and plan to publish around 12 PSP games this fiscal year, including titles for some of our top-selling brands."
Sales of the PSP and it's games are diminishing, while Japan is flourishing with 9.5 million units sold since the PSP's release according to Media Create.
I'm not the biggest fan of Ubisoft, hopefully those 12 games won't be ports of titles such as "Catz." More "Rayman" please.
