Got content you want to transfer from one Xbox 360 console to another? The license transfer tool will save the day, at last
Assuming you have more than one Xbox 360 console lying around with content downloads from the Xbox Live Marketplace spread across them, perhaps at some point you would like to get all of your downloads onto one 360 for the sake of convenience. That wasn't possible for the regular 360 gamer thanks to digital rights management (DRM) surrounding the license restrictions for content, until now. Microsoft releases the "license transfer tool" which basically makes it possible for 360 gamers to transfer their purchased content licenses from one console to another via PC.
The existing licenses are first transferred onto Xbox.com from the first console, to be re-downloaded onto the second. Microsoft will also handle this for you in case you need to get a refurbished console replacement after sending one in for repair. User may need to re-download the actual content again, however. Purchased licenses can only be transferred once every twelve months, and the licenses for movie rentals from the XBL Marketplace cannot be transferred, period.
