E3 has been chock full of juicy goodies, and here's another for ya: EA chief executive John Riccitiello revealed at the show BioWare is at work on the next Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game, and it will have an MMO component.

"We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development," said Riccitiello. "And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about -- in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it."

The first one is with the Warhammer franchise, the second, he confirmed, is KOTOR. More than that, it appears to be PC exclusive: the man stated it will "sidestep the consoles owned by Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo."

Speaking more on business, Riccitello boasted, "I think, hands down, there's not a publisher or a platform that's got what we've got." Cocksure, definitely. But just work with the team, EA, don't condone rushed product fueled mostly by crunch time, hey?

YESS, I've been waiting since Kotor 1 &2 for this announcement.

Greatest RPG's ever made. Nothing more immersive.

I'd be interested to know, in light of this, what people think of my idea that Jedi shouldn't be playable in this game... http://geekcritique.wordpress.com/2008/07/17/star-wars-kotor-mmo-heres-how-it-should-play-out/

....that just ruins Kotor for me. It needs to stay single player and just have better story and slightly better gameplay if they make it into a mmo its just going to suck. At the the very least call it something else. And isn't their already a Star Wars MMO thats out. For now i'l sit back and watch this thing Epic Fail so bad it winds up it the $5 bin in a week.
Hopefully KOTOR 4 will be back to a single player experience.

Geek Critique - I havent played galaxies but I've heard about how it was ruined so you make a lot of sense

Anyhow, i really do not want this to be online. An online component would be great though.

This is odd. Personally not too eager to try, because KOTOR's appeal was its unique characters. Seems like that rich character development would be lost in an MMO.

Then again, at E3 this year, everyone seems to either be hopping the MMO bandwagon or DS bandwagon, and both are getting tiresome to hear about.

Yeah, I do agree with you guys, I would have preferred that this was single player.

And like someone mentioned, it would just hit the sweet spot if they added multiplayer as a second thought.

I am sure there are some really good ways you could implement it.

Does anyone else wish that the Kotor's weren't quite SO linear? A little more open.

In what ways could they make it less linear though? If there were multiple ways to get off and complete a planet?

The KOTOR games COULD have been more open because there are ways... but that was never my first wish. I felt they were open enough, but as we all know, KOTOR II was a rushed project, and a lot of content was cut last minute (not to mention the countless bugs). I would've liked to see that content restored to all versions, so you don't need to have the PC version and download mods.

KOTOR as an MMO!? WTF went through their heads, huh!?

Oh well, we still have Mass Effect 2 to look forward to.

You have got to be joking. I loved the style of the first ones. This is just pathetic. I wanted another one, not something in a different direction. What could have possibly made them revise gameplay? I live in a place where high-speed is nonexistent and I am certain that any person like me is irritated that it may only be fun if I go online. Also, I am irritated that it is PC only. Why?
