Gears of War 2 will have language and violence filters

Epic tries to make Gears sequel more accessible

Anyone remotely familiar with Gears of War knows how intense the game can be.  The visuals are only a hint of the game's mature content, which consist of excessive swearing and blood splatter (though if I were cut open by a chainsaw, I'd probably bleed everywhere too).  The sequel will more than likely outshine its predecessor in terms of brutality, now that players can use corpses at meat shields and utilize various deathblows to crush their barely-breathing foes.

Not surprisingly, the ESRB has already given the game an M rating, but Epic's new language and violence filters may hold some clout if they want to negotatiate a lighter rating.  With these filters, bad language is weeded out and blood is replaced by sparks, according to what Microsoft has told What They Play, a gaming resource for parents.

The carnage is still there, just dumbed down for younger gamers.  Many daytime cartoons have also employed this censorship technique, depicting extreme violence like decapitation or dismemberment on victims that are blacked out or simply do not bleed robots seem to be the usual alternative.

aside from making it more accessible, CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE IT MORE PLAYABLE and CRASH FREE PLEASE? cause seriously the one on PC was highly unstable. It crashed when you started up the game and you had to do some workaround and even then it would crash after 30 min to an hour of play and you would have to start the game up again. PLEASE microsoft, release a functional version of this game for the PC this time.

Just a guess, but I would say this will be out on the 360 for a while before it heads to the PC won't it?

It's optional, so yes. I thought it was obvious, so I didn't mention anything in the article. Sorry about that!

Oh, thank god. For a moment, I thought that Epic was selling out for the whole "video games are to graphic" thing.

Well, at least they're optional.

What!?!? This is blasphemy! Eveyone knows that instead of blood you're supposed to use kittens!! My god, what is the world coming to!?!?

...

Haha, just kidding. I'm confused as to why anyone would buy the game if they wanted a non-violent, curse-free version. GoW was made for an older audience to begin with, nd with its dark atmoshpere I can't imagine legions of kids playing this with filters on. (though online players all ready know that quite a few of these kids could use these filters when they play online...)
