Discussion and reception to Mama's evil twin affirms their drive to push their own take on game franchises, backed by their own agendas of course
Now that publisher Majesco had a chance to promote their latest Cooking Mama game provide Mama's angle on treatment of animals designated for consumption, animal rights organisation PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) believes it's on to something good when it comes to spreading their word. PETA pledges to push more online game titles, explaining these are an ideal platform for engaging an audience that "may be turned off by more direct appeals." Of course in the minds of PETA, respecting the rights of animals also means becoming a strict vegan, so that's an additional hurdle for most people they want to reach out to.
"We first turned to videogames years ago in an effort to reach out to young guys, but as we dug deeper, we realised that the gaming audience was much bigger and more diverse than we had initially thought. Given the huge success that we've had with Super Chick Sisters and Mama Kills Animals, we will definitely be creating many, many more games."
See, it's all about snagging those casual gamers now! PETA also confirms that it didn't have any hard feelings for Mama, with its real target being the general acceptance of the meat industry and its practices to supplement our daily diet.
"Our game isn't an attack on the videogame industry. It's an attack on the meat industry. We love games (that's why we've created so many), and we love the Cooking Mama series."
The organization notes their parody title still helped generate additional buzz for the actual Wii game and believes Majesco acknowledged this, given the publisher's "light-hearted" response to "Mama Kills Animals". Indeed, Majesco seemed to have taken the whole thing in stride; you would think they would just as sooner file a lawsuit over misuse of intellectual property or something.
Harvest Moon: To the Slaughterhouse
Pokemon: Illegal Arcanine Fighting Ring
Mario Steps on Helpless Turtles!
Barbie Fashion Designer: Barbie wears dead animals!
In all seriousness, PETA is pretty ridiculous. I'm all for not treating the animals we use for food badly, but I still want to enjoy a burger. We're never going to stop eating animals or using products made from animals, but we don't need to abuse them before we put them down.
Barbie: Force a Horse into slavery and ride it Sim.
Oh, I got another one!
Abuse Crossing: Force animals to walk, talk, and wear clothing.
That is about it.... WAIT I have another one!
Fable: Beat your dog until it becomes violent and kills downed opponents.
Ok, I am done.
