Doesn't mean he's any good at it...

Here's the story of a Virginia boy who really loves learning.

Around 7:40 am on Monday, the 6-year-old missed his bus but was determined to get to school one way or another.  Instead of relying on his parents, he took the keys to his family's 2005 Ford Taurus and drove off.  While his mother slept, blissfully unaware, the boy drove nearly six miles before going off the rural road and hitting an embankment, followed by a utility pole, less than two miles from his school.

His parents, Jacqulyn Deana Waltman (26) and David Eugene Dodson (40) have been charged with child endangerment.  The mother is being held without bond, while the father was released on a $5k bond.

"He was very intent on getting to school," said Northumberland County Sheriff Chuck Wilkins.  "When he got out of the car, he started walking to school. He did not want to miss breakfast and PE."

As if that story weren't bizarre enough, the boy told police that he learned to drive by playing Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam.  Now that is one intuitive kid.

Both he and his 4-year-old brother are currently in protective custody.

I dunno what I'm more confused at.
The kid getting that far before crashing.
Or the fact that he plays GTA.

I'm just glad/amazed that no one got hurt. I'm also really amazed that any kid wants to go to school that badly...

Well, when you're 6 years old, it's all fun stuff at school (or they make you think it is fun).

Paper crafts, painting, learning basic stuff. Meh, kids XD

Well, the mother should have been awake to send her kid off (he IS 6 after all). But why is the father being held? Was he awake in the house or something? I don't see how the father could be in trouble, if he wasn't there (unless he was supposed to be, in which case he would be the one who would be in the most trouble)....

I think the car must be auto-gear car, but how could he drive manual?

it didn't say it was manual???
otherwise...that car would need a new tranny anyway

what im really confused is that, how did he see to drive?? kid must be tall because, i can't see his feet being able to touch the pedal, and see where he was going. At that age all i saw was the sky and spedometer.

This is cool, but this is even more awesome. He wakes up only to find it is 7:45. Using acrobatic moves from Mirrors Edge, he ran downstairs in his pajamas and to an intersection. He took someone elses car by hijacking them (which he would have learned from GTA). Then, he would go on a mad speed chase trying to escape the six cop cars behind him as he exceeded 80 miles an hour, all while controlling the car, which he learned from Need for speed. The car would then fall over and roll 5 times, and he would jump out of the car with a move he learned in Stranglehold. The police would arrive to an empty car on the side of the road, but little did they know he learned how to set up clamores from COD 4. BOOM!!! He would arrive in school, but he would sneak past the teachers, which he would have learned from MGS or Splinter cell. He would grab a student from the crowd and beat him up in a corner, then change into his clothes. He would then blend into the class, and it would be as if he were not even there.

Lesson learned: video games are not useless, especially for this young agent. Do not try at home.

He plays GTA....thats more than likely why the parents are being held. (or one would hope so). But how he made it without crashing (for that far) and still walking to school. where in the world are cops when you need them.

I used to think that when you're taking a right turn, you go all the way onto the other side of the intersection, and turn right into incoming traffic (like you would with a left turn, except going along with the traffic), at the age of 6.

Maybe this kid lives on the country side or something. Less traffic.

Did anyone else notice that the father was nearly twice as old as the mother?

What shocks me almost as much as the efficiency of the child's driving,is the fact the parents got in as much trouble as they did and the kids are in protective custody. To me thats just serious overkill.

When we hear stories about kids doing things based on what they saw in a video game, I usually think the kid is impressionable or stupid (depending on their age). This boy obviously caused a lot of trouble, but his reasons are so endearing that I just wanna take him home with me.

Hey, kids, come see the auto- car! It drives all by itself, whether you're in there or not! Also, it only gets you six miles!

How it runs: 6 year old kid driving it!
