Too Human trilogy doesn't look likely

Poor performance and economic conditions threaten series' future

Too Human -- remember that old thing? Lots of hype, lots of trash talking, and eventually, mediocre sales contrasted with a high budget. A blog from Kris Erickson of Xboxist speculates the future of the planned trilogy from Silicon Knights is in serious danger. Between the job cuts at partner Microsoft, the first game's high development costs (estimated at $80 million USD over 10 years), and final sales (about 560,000 copies), it's not unreasonable to furrow one's brow in worry over the future.

Of course, it's not all doom and gloom, which is an easy picture to paint. 560,000 copies doesn't make it a blockbuster per se, but it's really not a terrible number either. While Microsoft may be looking to more wisely spend its funding, there would be worse places to put it than in Silicon Knights and a Too Human sequel.

In any case, Erickson says a multiplatform release of the first title could be a good bet to ensure follow-ups (or one, at least). Though it's doubtful "Silicon Knights might be able to double their worldwide sales for the game" with this move (especially with relatively low PlayStation 3 console sales), it could be a smart route to take.

Too Human Two: what say you?

This is sort of a shame. Number 1 was a big disappointment, but number 2 and 3 had big potential I thought, because the engine was done and they could have concentrated on making the game great and fixing all the weak spots of number 1. Ah well.

Regarding the multiplatform release, I don't think they should bother with Ep.1. Every gamer problem is well aware of all the flaws with that game... I don't think PC gamers would want to buy it all, and doubt PS3 ppl would either.

I would love it on PC if it was solid, but now I am skeptical.

I saw really looking forward to this game , but after reading all the reviews, it sounds like they really bungled it.

    Bungled?
You should play the demo first. Reviews are just reviews. I can think of a good few games, movies, whatever that I've loved that lots of reviewers have hated. I would hope most others could too.

This is one of the problems with an episodic game. I haven't played the original, but I heard a lot of negative stuff about it. I'd like it to continue so that the fans can get what they were expecting, and so that the series can possibly redeem itself. But, if they scrap the project, that's just business.

@chautemoc: You do NOT want this game. One of the biggest disappointments of 2008.

This game was decent it just had some problems. Play the demo if you think its good buy a copy, if you think its meh, rent it. don't like it don't worry about it because you didn't pay for it. Too Human gave me abuot an hour less of gameplay than Fable 2 did and i spent 2 weeks on Fable 2 before i noticed flaws and bad things about the game. I noticed most of the stuff wrong with too human about 3 days worth of play, but i went trough the game with the current 5 classes and theirs supposedly DLC on the way that will add 2 or 3 more classes to play as. (sorry had to get that out of the way first)

As for the trilogy thing that kinda sucks because i was hoping for a good story finsher instead their going to have to cut out a few things when the 2nd one comes out. And the second one will be realesed more than likely because all they have left to do is make new levels, do the voice work, make new weapons/armour, imporve the level cap and add new skills. This would take around 5 to 8 months (if they rush and skip over things), or if they take their time and do everything right a year to year and couple months.

I didn't have very much fun with this game at E3. The controls were very clunky, so it was a bad first impression. I actually thought this game did moderately well because of vocal fans... so I assumed that my bad experience was just personal preference. Didn't realize the game actually disappointed more than just me.
