Microsoft must be pretty durn proud to be getting exclusive downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV, in the form of a complete episode with a new playable character and additional goodies. GTA IV: The Lost and Damned remains on track for its February 17th release, and Microsoft will make GTA IV online multiplayer over Xbox Live free for five days to celebrate its release. That means it won't matter if you're stuck with the free Silver level membership for XBL which typically locks you out of online multiplayer for supporting titles; if you'll be able to join your Gold level XBL brethren online in GTA IV for the five-day period ending February 22nd.

We are excited to announce that for the first time ever, starting Tuesday, February 17 at 9:00 am (PST), Xbox LIVE multiplayer service usually reserved for Xbox LIVE Gold members will be completely free of charge for LIVE members while playing Grand Theft Auto IV or The Lost and Damned -- the first exclusive downloadable expansion episode on Xbox 360. This limited, Grand Theft Auto multiplayer promotion is applicable only to players of either Grand Theft Auto IV or The Lost and Damned expansion episode, and will end on Sunday, February 22 (11:59PM PST). Be a part of this unprecedented event and join the legions of Grand Theft Auto fans across the world to wreak havoc upon Liberty City.

Since it's a special XBL week, you'll be able to do more than just play online for free. XBL gamers can also challenge Hip Hop DJ and producer, Statik Selektah in the "Game with Fame" event, or go head-to-head against the Rockstar staff themselves in the "Game with Rockstar" multiplayer event.
