Probably more than you need
Certainly what must be one of the most anticipated titles of this generation, even moreso for the PlayStation 3, God of War III came out of the gates today with a ton of screenshots, news, and a gameplay trailer (that word is very important), and we've got it all here for you. The trailer, it seems, is actually a few months late in a way, but don't blame us -- blame the developer! The game's director Stig Asmussen said in a press event earlier this week they've been "sitting on it", anxiously awaiting to show it, only deciding now to unveil it (though we got a peek back in December). Might as well get to the most exciting part first, so here it is:
As you can see, it's called the "Epic Scale" trailer, and for a reason:
"We're going to be introducing groundbreaking gameplay this time around, and that all starts and ends with our Titan gameplay. It's all about scale," said Asmussen. Apparently the Titans have actually changed the way they've approached the level and combat designs, due to their massive size. Suffice to say, they will be a big part of the game (don't you love puns?). "They're truly living, breathing spectacles that I believe are going to change how people look at games."
He later added, "Our whole engine is built around rendering this massive scale, and it truly is a moving level. We're kind of moving mountains now."
Since there's so much news surrounding the game today, we'll just fire out a bunch of quick tidbits for you: the trailer is authentic (no quicktime events, here!), people who haven't played the other games can play this one without worrying about the story, they don't know about the future of God of War either way (despite what some publications will tell you), and a release date will be revealed at E3 (which we'll be covering extensively, and live).
So what does former director/creator David Jaffe think about all this? A NeoGAF forum post reveals he's as anxious as he is delighted:
"I tell you what, I'm not even WORKING on this latest GOD OF WAR game and I feel more nervous about the press and net responses to THIS game than EVER before :)
"Sh*t...what if - TO YOU- it DOESN'T really look like a painting come to life!?!? Ah well, I stand behind what I said. Eager to see if you guys/gals (as well as the press) felt/feel the same way.
"Standing by with a champagne glass in one hand (to celebrate) and an umbrella in the other (to block the thrown tomatoes in case we don't agree with each other) :) Eager to see ya'lls responses! David"
Wow, it's truly an amazing game to watch. Its graphical power and gameplay are quite hard to fathom with the full utilisation of PS3's Cell engine. The final outcome is only one which is superb in all aspects just like the magnificent "KILLZONE 2". Ultimately, I do anticipate that it will be a million-seller for PS3 consoles. As a PS3 fan, I simply can't wait for God of War 3 release date, Hee Hee....
Note: Previous God of War I, II and Chain of Olympus are all amazing games. Roll on to Dec 2009.
Wow ... I've never really felt too much of a reason to get into the God of War series. However, when I heard there were going to be massive bosses, it reminded me of Shadow of the Colossos, which I loved. While it may not be what I was expecting, it still looks rather amazing nonetheless.
It looks quite incredible if you ask me. I remember playing through 2, how the battles made your heart beat just that much more. Now, I have to say, just WATCHING the preview for this has me ready to play. I cant wait to check this game out more ^-^
Note: Previous God of War I, II and Chain of Olympus are all amazing games. Roll on to Dec 2009.
Note: Hee Hee, I already owned PS3 but the future biggest reason needs to be spelled out, right?
At least there's Fahrenheit on PC though..
