Sold freakin' out claims Capcom
Especially keeping in mind Japan doesn't really fancy the Xbox 360, the numbers for the Street Fighter IV launch in the country are massive - according to a translation of a Japanese gaming website, 86,000 copies were sold in its first day. 58,000 of those units were for Sony's system, with the remaining 28,000 for Microsoft's.
The numbers make this the best selling PS3 fighter in Japan, outdoing Soul Calibur IV by 1,000 copies, though that title still has it beat for total launch day numbers (92,000, compared to Virtua Fighter 5's 42,000).
Capcom's community manager Seth Killian wrote about the figures on Friday on the company's blog, stating they were sold out in Japan entirely. Cheap Ass Gamer's CheapyD was skeptical of this, and after some fairly extensive investigation, found the claims to be false. The post has since been revised to say all the day one copies were sold out (this is still false).
In any case, numbers appear very good, and it sounds like Capcom really hit the nail on the head with this one, giving old fans what they've wanted since the glory days (not to discount some of the very successful and inventive series titles like Alpha 3, 3rd Strike, etc.) and new fans something to peek their heads up about.
The game launches in North America this Tuesday, February 17, and Friday, February 20 in Europe.

But I never liked the Tekken series Dead or Alive is way better. Also the new street fighter looks tight as hell.
