Codemasters on a mission
No misleading headline, here: Codemasters are promoting their Rise of the Argonauts title in a peculiar way -- by asking gamers to name their kids Jason, after the game's protagonist. If you do, you win five free games from the company.
"These days, babies names are influenced by celebrities - and there aren't that many famous Jasons any more," said Richard Eddy, Director of Communications, Codemasters. "We hope our Rise of the Argonauts hero can act as a 'virtual' star, encouraging new parents to rejuvenate this once-great English name."
As of yet, Jack, Thomas, Oliver and Joshua are at the top of the UK's favourite names for boys. 'Jason' is of Greek origin, and means 'healer'. It's been very popular in the US but has faded in the Kingdom in recent years, dropping out of the top 50.
According to the rules, the child doesn't have to be male, so if you're sick enough to name your daughter Jason for some video games, by all means!
Jason from the Bring Back Jason blog says "if you were to take our efforts to rehabilitate the name Jason, and turn them into a bona fide set of beliefs, you’d probably call that set of beliefs something like Jasonism."
