A certain kart racing series claims pole position
Guinness World Records looks to be getting quite cozy in its capacity as gaming industry opinion leader thanks to its lineup of Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition books. To be sure, the latest 2009 edition was apparently a bestseller of sorts in the UK hardback non-fiction book sales charts. The global authority on record-breaking achievements has taken upon itself to produce a list of the top 50 console games of all-time, encompassing entries from most console platforms classic and current.
According to Guinness, their contributors sorted through, weeded out and ranked "hundreds of releases" to compile their top 50, ranked on both their "initial impact and lasting legacy". The list is bound to generate discussion for entrenched series fans for quite some time! Claiming first place in the list of gaming's very greatest is Super Mario Kart, though interestingly Guinness chose to lump all the games in the series into one entry, unlike titles from other series on the list like Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto, Zelda and even those other platforming Mario titles.

Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday explains that, "We knew this would be a complex task so we invited a crack team of industry experts to form a judging panel - and the result is a "top 50" list of games ranked both on their importance and on how fun they are to play." That'll probably add even more fuel to the fires, considering the positions of many titles!
I thought Donkey Kong would be in there!
and I thought that Metal Gear Solid would place higher...
Where's Doom/Wolfestein/Quake, the ones who popularized FPS?
Why's FFXII higher than FFVII, the game that popularized RPGs?
Well, it's clear Guiness should stay away from video game lists until they get decent surveys.
Lol.
Suikoden should be in it, perhaps Grandia as well.
For instance FFXII is a great game but a crap FF game(in my opinion)...if that makes sense.
Just another run of the mill space marine character based FPS. Gay!!!!!!They are a dime a dozen. I played it for seriously like 10 mins before I ejected it from my XBox and drive its over priced ass back to Gamestop.
That said, yes, these lists never work because every 2nd person will say "OMGWTF why is [game0] in the list!? [game1] should be there instead!!1!lollerskates!!"
But seriously, Crash Bandicoot? What the hell?
Donkey Kong Country should've been there instead!!1!
cwatididthar?
