Square Enix announces that Final Fantasy XII. the latest installment of its acclaimed console RPG series, has begun shipping to retailers and should be making its way to stores by the time you read this. Gamers who shop at GameStop/EB have bonus option of purchasing a special Collector's Edition of the game featuring a bonus DVD with all sorts of goodies.
"FINAL FANTASY XII is the most accessible RPG yet, allowing casual and hardcore gamers to truly customize the complexity of the game to their playing style," said Daishiro Okada, President and COO, Square Enix, Inc. "We're also very pleased to be able to provide several exclusives for the North American release including true 16:9 functionality, additional voiced CG sequences and a truly special Collector's Edition. The Collector's Edition comes with completely unique packaging, in-depth interviews with the development staff, special trailers, a history of the FINAL FANTASY series and several other features. We are extremely proud of both versions of FINAL FANTASY XII and hope gamers will enjoy our efforts."
Early reviews of the final retail build highlight a remarkably different experience FF fans can expect, right down to the all-new battle system.

The first two things that came to mind as I read this was how funny it was that everyone interested in FFXII is currently playing the game and hasn't noticed this, and the second part being how the quoted article contains the same pulp that tends to be placed to get more buyers. Indeed, when I read the line "for casual gamers and hardcore gamers", was almost word for word from KotOR, Oblivion, and even way back when Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn was released.

So far, from the reactions I've seen from the forum goers, a lot are happy with the system. While the FFVII-addicts still consider all FF games lower, many admit that it is one of the better ones that they've played. The combat system, liscence system and gambits all seem to be doing fine and have been accepted to be part of the game, but I think it's too early still to comment on what people think when the novelty of the newer systems wear off, if they do.

I like Final Fantasy series as much as I like the Dragon Warrior/Quest series.
Playing them for awhile is fun but play the RPG too long and then you get tired of it and want to switch to another game to take a break. I do this all the time to keep from
being tired of playing the same game.
I am getting the FF 12 Collect. Ed. sometime soon probabuly around Jan./Feb. 2007.
