Nintendo Refutes "Defective" Wiimote Claims
Leo Chan - Thursday, December 21st, 2006 | 10:57AM (PT)

Company says latest lawsuit is "completely without merit"

Nintendo is well aware of the lawsuit filed against it by San Francisco law firm Green Welling LLP. Green Welling's lawsuit is accusing Nintendo of deceiving consumers and putting them at potential risk by selling Wii consoles with "faulty" wrist straps. Wii controller wrist straps have broken during rigorous gameplay in several reported circumstances, leading to property damage and personal injury.  The company has since issued additional fact sheets outlining safe use of the Wii remote controller, and is also offering "improved" wrist straps for use with the Wiimotes.  According to Nintendo:
We believe the lawsuit to be completely without merit. Nintendo has a long tradition of delivering high-quality products and excellent customer service, and we take all reports from our customers seriously.

At the time we became aware of the lawsuit, we had already taken appropriate steps to reinforce with consumers the proper use of the Wii Remote and had made stronger replacement wrist straps available. This suit has had no effect on those efforts.

I for one think that Nintendo should have done more testing with the controller before they released it.

"Wii controller wrist straps have broken during rigorous gameplay in several reported circumstances, leading to property damage and personal injury." Rigorous gameplay, exactly. In all the Wii videos i've watched, you only need to nudge the controller, not throw it around like a baseball bat. Besides, they caused it, and Nintendos a Billion dollar company, I for one am not worried about the Wii's bieng taken off the market.
