Half million dollar computer cases
Kevin Spiess - Thursday, January 31st, 2008 | 12:06PM (PST)

Big blingin'! Where my diamonds at? Gold -- oh no'es! We got's gold.

You know, computers get can pricey. Really quick. Want that extra two gigabytes of DDR2? $50 bucks. Want to go from that so-so 8600 GT to a sweet 8800 GT? That'll be at least a 'nother 100 clams. Want that case plated with flashy, expensive gold plating or diamonds? That's another $500,000 down the drain. The bill adds up quick!

But Japan's Zeus Computer has what you need. Folks will be impressed with the power of your E6850, sure -- but they'll be even more impressed with your willingness to go that extra mile, by spending several hundred thousand dollars on that semi-precious stone inlaid, gold or platinum Jupiter case! You'll be the most talked about guy at any LAN party you happen to bring one of these babies to, that's for sure.

Not sure how the air flow is in a gold-plated case -- or how heavy it would be exactly -- but hey, if you have that much cash to spend on stuff like this, then immediatly rush to your local bank and get some financing!

You can even get a case specific to your astrological sign -- which will be etched in diamonds, to further enhance your most auspicious astrological pleasures!

All the pictures of the cases seem to be artists' representations, so I'm not sure if Zeus actually built one of these yet. I'm going to contact them today to see if they are willing to send us a review sample.

Sweeetttttt... *drool*
But for $500k, that's a little too much.

People have to much money, rabid? If we want to complain about too much money, talk about the Arab Oil Shieks and Bill Gates, not us common folks.

Why use that kind of money on a case? That's just stupid to pay more for a case than your own damn computer. I wouldn't know where to start if I had 500K, but I know I wouldn't spend it on a case.

Actually anyone with $500k to just dump on a pc like that could be said to have too much money.

You don't need to go to extremes to use the line, people know people with $40b have a bit more money than they could ever rationally spend. You can still use it on the guy that drops $500k on a gold plated case for bragging rights.

I would rather spend 98% less on a more powerful computer rather than upgrade its look.

... the price tag is almost a joke. Gold plating a case and sticking on diamonds does not result in 500k of precious metals and gems . Are we talking about sticking on a couple hundred 1kt stones?!

If it upgraded itself, did self replacements and came with a lifetime OC192 connection then it'd be worth it. haha except it'd be easy to identify you wherever you went. I guess I'm more thinking one of those big blue super computers that pretty much ignore IT workers.

I bet you Rappers are going to get this thing, or Mac users. Nice picture there, redemption, very funny.

Pretty sure unless it was sprayed white with crushed pearls it wouldn't happen, or unless it was built from unpolished platinum to give it that "rough" appearance for the rugged computer owner with way too much money for a system made from precious metals.

If I had even remotely that much money to spend I'd have one of these manf's producing a custom board with whatever they needed to do to give me an absurdly high performing system with custom PCB's for everything so it's as efficient and power draining as possible. And then I'd use it to play Minesweeper on. D:

If you want something liek that, then just get one of those Cray super comps.

Actually the IBM server is a lot more impressive, it dials home and talks to techs without anyone needed to diagnose it, it has people come with new parts it fixes many problems on its own in software and is just an amazing piece of self maintaining work.

From what I know of the Cray it does have massive power but it doesn't alienate the owners/operators like that.

For that price it better display some galaxies on the case for trippy and dynamic light shows! Actually the gold-plating and zodiac signs evoke memories of this older anime series I used to watch, Saint Seiya. Have you felt your cosmo???
