S3 releases Chrome 430 GT 256MB video card
William Henning - Thursday, March 20th, 2008 | 12:18PM (PST)

S3 enters the HDTV supporting low-medium end of the GPU race.

S3 has released their new Chrome 430 GPU, and is positioning it against the Radeon HD 3450 and the Nvidia 8400GS.

The Chrome 430 is apparently the first in the "Chrome 400 Series" to be released, and it combines advanced 3D graphics including DX10.1 support, with hardware assisted HD video playback - even including HDCP. The Chrome 430 is made on a 65nm process and is a low power design.

Surprisingly, there is no MultiChrome support mentioned on the web site, and the memory bus is only 64 bits wide.

You can get one for $59 from GStore, their retail affiliate, and you can read more about it HERE.

Scary, good to see that S3 had something up their sleeve this whole time. Kinda odd to find this and then find that VIA has their mobile chipset ready to throw down as well. I guess the underdogs are getting fired up.

nice, can only imagine the cross platform SLI/Crossfire that lets one mixed different cards or on-board for extra performance, that would be a good call. One of these and on-board video would make a budget board talk trash to all the top of the line performers.

mix a different card under SLI/Crossfire sounds great...but will NV/AMD support this?
